Our Mission & Story
How It Started
Erikord Gems started from a lifelong passion for rocks and minerals that gradually grew into a business. Growing up in Wilberforce, Ontario, Canada, just 30 minutes from Bancroft, known as the “Mineral Capital of Canada,” I was surrounded by a strong rockhounding and mineral-collecting culture from a young age. Visiting the local Rockhound Gemboree introduced me to the world of mineral shows early on and helped encourage a deeper passion for gemstones, minerals, and collecting.
Learning About the Supply Chain
I understand that the gem and mineral industry can be complex, especially when it comes to understanding the full supply chain across different continents and cultures. My goal is to work toward increasing transparency and traceability within gemstone and mineral supply chains.
In 2023, I took my first solo sourcing trip to learn more about the mineral trade firsthand. I met with one of my longtime Moroccan suppliers to visit and document some of the mines where our specimens are sourced. During the trip, we visited and purchased directly at the Mibladen and Sidi Ayad mines. We also visited a selenite workshop in Midelt and purchased directly from miners at their homes near Bou Azzer.
My Pathway Into the Gem Trade
In 2024, I graduated from Bishop's University with a Bachelor’s degree in marketing and entrepreneurship. This program helped me develop a stronger understanding of marketing, supply chains, and business operations.
I chose to continue my studies further by moving to Bangkok for four months to study gemology and become an Accredited Gemologist through the Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences. I graduated in December 2025 with Highest Honours, which required strong attention to detail throughout many practical and theoretical examinations.
The gemstone and mineral trade operates unlike most industries. The business is built on reputation, trust, and international relationships, and a single gemstone passes through many hands before reaching the final customer. I am working toward shortening this chain and improving traceability throughout the sourcing process.
My Upcoming Goals
Through my studies in the heart of the gemstone trade in Bangkok, I have connected with talented people across many parts of the gemstone supply chain. I have developed reputable sourcing connections with direct mine access and built relationships with local cutting partners.
More recently, I have focused on offering gemstones cut from rough material I sourced directly, along with unique rough gemstones that are less commonly available on the market.
Today, I continue working to expand trusted relationships and improve the transparency and traceability of pieces within our inventory.
The Erikord Difference
Erikord Gems is focused on honesty, transparency, and clear disclosure. As an Accredited Gemologist, all gemstone treatments, such as heat treatment on sapphires, are always clearly disclosed.
I do my best to source with the highest understanding of the supply chain as possible while showcasing the journey each piece has taken. We are currently working toward launching features that will better showcase the journey of select pieces from the mine to becoming available on Erikord Gems.
